The current economic picture is about as unclear as I can remember it ever being. Is the U.S. economy growing or shrinking? Is the job market strong or weak? And what is the yield curve telling us about where things might be headed from here?
For thoughts on these questions, I turned today to Michael Lebowitz of Real Investment Advice. I first met Michael earlier this year and his expertise on economic issues makes him a very real asset in our search for answers regarding the U.S. economy. If the U.S. economy is weakening, then Jerry Powell was wise to get ahead of the issue with his fifty basis point fed funds rate cut last month. But what if ole Jerry misread the tea leaves? That's an open question, too.
So over the course of this podcast, I ask Michael to fill in some of the blanks. Items addressed include:
- the recent "uninversion" of the yield curve
- the latest job market data, including the BLSBS and jobless claims
- how large can the U.S. debt and deficits grow
- where does this all head in 2025
Many thanks to Michael for his time today. On your way out, please be sure to visit the Real Investment Advice website. Check out their services and be sure to register for their daily email updates.
