Rice in Thailand

I just returned from a brief vacation in Thailand and got some on the ground experience in how the rains and flooding there has adversely affected this season's rice crop.

Wow, was there a lot of water.

It can't be good for rice production, especially in the rice growing regions.

Retail prices were approx $1.25 per kilo of jasmine rice at the big box store outside Chiang Mai, with stock levels at half or less normal levels.

Since Thailand and Vietnam are among the largest exporters of the crop there should be an increase in pricing, then again the market has probably already taken that into account as the Thai flooding news is 5 or 6 weeks old as of this posting.

I just felt it was worth posting what I personally saw with my own eyes.
