Personal balance and an enquiring curious critical mindset are essential for making successful investments in financial markets. Personal balance ia also required to deal with bad or partial information, and also to contain inner tendencies for making a tilted inner evaluation of a neutral external situation.

Then there are the manipulating strings connected to us which make us act as puppet, jumping and dancing to the pull of those ever so tenuous and totally invisible "strings".

After a while of looking hard we begin to notice some of the strings, and eventually we trace them back and discover that many people, organizations, random events or even nature itself are all pullers of our strings. We are a part of our environment, gifted with intelligence, and it is better for us if we use it.

Several times I have been asked for a reading list which can be used to raise the quality and ability of prospective investors and traders.

Here it is.

Sorry Ben Graham-ites! Your master didn't make the (my!) cut because this list is about the practical use of charts and intended to work on all timeframes. On a more serious note the Graham and Dodds thesis can be alternatively represented on charts as an approximate 10 or 20 years trading range which stock prices, earnings, and returns of assets employed, oscillate within and can be accordingly traded.

Very long term secular trends are turning but this takes many years. Interest rates are at 60, 120 and 300 year lows. Reversal of trends always creates churning and price fluctuations and we should expect more of that.

The demonetization of silver during the bimetallic standard period a century ago, and the superior status given to gold as money consequently is a case study for today. But this time it's sovereign debt paper and money, and it's time for the establishment to make the debt paper's value "vaporize"!

Some people debate the existence of cycles in financial markets. They are certainly not regular, and come and go for unknown reasons. Here I look into two pretty large alleged cycles in silver and we can track them over the coming weeks to verify if they are really there or just illusions!

Central Bankers engage in "Price Stabilization". Their actions are supposedly private. Professionalism demands secrecy but total secrecy is difficult to ensure. At what level in the organization would you expect that information "leaks" begin to occur? At the bottom? In the middle? Not likely!

Through the ages and through history even up to the present day, some things just repeat over and over. That means we can know roughly what to expect sometimes. But one thing is sure, the characters in past iterations of this cycle are all extremely interesting characters who were larger than life.
